These pots are inspired by the shapes of foraminifera or forams for short. These are the microscopic shells of large single celled protists, which after death settle in the sediment of the ocean floor and form limestone.

The small foraminifera inset images are all taken from the Foraminifera.eu website; the drawings themselves are from the H.M.S. Challenger expedition 1873-76.
